the only problems i can think of is if the power goes out, the light bulb's go out, some one move's the box's, or the algae doesn't grow
Broad Question
does algae grow faster or slower when exposed to different wavelength's of light?
Specific Question
does algae grow faster or slower when exposed to UV, light bulb, or sun light?
Hypothesis
i think the the algae will grow fastest with sun light, and slowest with u.v.
Graph of Hypothesis
Variables
Independent Variable:
different light wavelengths of the light bulbs
Dependent Variable:
amount of algae
Variables That Need To Be Controlled:
size of air holes in container
size of container tempter
Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation
light absorbance= the amount of light that pass's though the algae
calorimeter= a device that can tell how dense some thing is by measuring amount of light that can pass through something
General Plan
i'll have 2 board box's both with a couple of air holes, and a lamp type thing inside. one lamp will have a u.v bulb and the other will have a normal bulb.i will put 2 samples of lake water in each of the box's, and 2 more samples will be right by the box's, in the sun light. at the end of my exparament i will take out my samples and find the bio-mass using a colorimeter.
Potential Problems And Solutions
one of the light bulb's burn out. I'll replace the bulb's periodically.
Safety Or Environmental Concerns
the only safety concern is if the water get's spilled on the light bulb, the bulb break's, and electrocute's the water. that's really all i can think of.
Experimental Design
(add the correct headings from the experimental design page before beginning)
i'll have 2 card board box's each with a light bulb and a cup with a sample of water and algae in it.there will be 4 small air holes each in the box's.
there will also be 2 cup's of the algae water mix siting next to the box's in the sun light.

Detailed Procedure
1. cut 2 holes in 2 different card board box's.2. i'll put one lamp in each box, one lamp will have a U.V light bulb and the other will have a normal light bulb.3.then, after i turn on the light bulb's i'll put two samples of water in each of the box's and two more samples out side of the box's and in the sun.

Photo Lists
i need to take pictures of the entire set up right after i finish putting everything together, my algae samples after i measure them in the colorimeter, and i need to take a picture of the colorimeter.

all of the didn't grow anything, i know this because the light absorbed was at 0.000.Conclusion
i did something wrong and the algae did not grow.Discussion
one interesting pattern in my data is that every thing the algae level was 0.000.this exparment could be improvedBenefit to Community and/or Science
if the algae had grown it would have changed the way people grow stuff and what type of light they would use.
